Men's Basketball Drops MAC Commonwealth Heartbreaker to Stevenson

CHESTER, Pa. (Dec. 12, 2015) –  The Widener men's basketball team fought hard but was unable to hang on as they fell to Stevenson, 65-64, in a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth game on Saturday at the Schwartz Athletic Center.
 
The Pride fall to 4-5 overall, and 0-2 in MAC Commonwealth action, while the Mustangs improve to 3-5 and 1-2 in conference play.
 
Sean Mayberry gave Stevenson a one point advantage with 6.6 seconds left in the game. After grabbing a rebound, the sophomore guard put in a lay-up to give the Mustangs the victory. Mayberry led all scorers with 21 as he shot nine-of-19 from the field.
 
Junior Kendall Green (Mount Laurel, N.J.) recorded his first double-double of the year with a team high 15 points and ten rebounds, with eight of them coming on the defensive glass. Green shot six-of-12 from the field and three-of-five from the free-throw line. The junior guard added three steals and one assist in 33 minutes played.
 
Marquis Powell (Bowie, Md.) added 15 points on seven-of-11 shooting from the field for the Pride. The junior guard recorded three boards, two assist and one steal. Powell hit a three-pointer with just under three minutes left in the game to give the Pride a six point lead.
 
Widener shot 24-of-61 from the field and recorded 40 of their 64 points in the paint. Senior Laron Byrd (Philadelphia, Pa.) added ten points and three defensive rebounds for the Pride.
 
The Blue and Gold will be back in action on December 22nd as they travel to West Hartford, Conn. to take on NCAA Division I foe Hartford. Tip-off is set for 11:00 a.m.
