WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (Dec. 22, 2015) – The Widener men's basketball team fought hard but was unable to overcome a half-time deficit as they fell to Division I opponent Hartford, 69-46, on Tuesday morning.
The Pride fall to 4-6, while the Hawks improve to 6-8.
Sophomore
Sardayah Sambo (Middletown, Del.) recorded a team high 13 points on five-of-eight shooting, including three-of-four from the line. The guard added six defensive rebounds, two assist, two steals and one block in 32 minutes played.
Widener trailed Hartford, member of the America East Conference, by nine points at the half. The Hawks opened the second half with two straight three pointers to extend their lead to 15 points.
Junior captain
Kendall Green (Mount Laurel, N.J.) added eight points and six boards for the Pride. The guard was two-of-two from the free-throw line, and finished with one assist in the game.
Tuesday's match-up was Widener's first regular season game against a Division I opponent in the ten years

Marquis Powell (Bowie, Md.) added three points and three rebounds for the Blue and Gold.
The Hawks were led by 17 points from Evan Cooper. The guard shot was six-of-ten from the field, including a game high five-of-nine from three-point range.
Widener will be back in action after the holidays as they host Lycoming on January 2nd, in a MAC Commonwealth match-up at 3:00 p.m.
