Sambo, Nicholson Lead Men's Basketball to Victory Over York (N.Y.)

PURCHASE, N.Y. (Nov. 20, 2015) – Sardayah Sambo (Middletown, Del.) and David Nicholson (Odenton, Md.) led the Widener men's basketball team to a 67-59 victory over York (N.Y.) in the first game of the AJ Buchanan Classic on Friday night.
 
The Pride improves to 2-2, while the Cardinals drop to 1-3.
 
Sambo tied a career high as he recorded 20 points on seven-of-12 shooting in the victory for the Pride. The sophomore guard added seven rebounds and four blocks in 39 minutes of play.
 
He finished with three steals and six-of-12 from the free throw line.
 
Nicholson added 20 points on eight-of-17 in 30 minutes of play. The senior forward finished with five assist, five steals and two rebounds for the Pride.
 
Widener scored 26 points in the paint with 16 of them coming on the fast break. The Pride capitalized to score 33 points off of 27 turnovers from the Cardinals.
 
Anthony Mason led York (N.Y.) with 23 points on eight-of-12 shooting.  
 
Senior Laron Byrd (Philadelphia, Pa.) added ten points and six assist in the victory. The senior guard also led the team with seven boards, six of them coming on the defensive glass.  
 
Widener will be back in action at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday in the championship game of the AJ Buchanan Classic. The Pride will either face Mahattanville or Southern Virginia.
