Men's Basketball Dominates Manhattanville in AJ Buchanan Classic Title Game

PURCHASE, N.Y. (Nov. 21, 2015) – The Widener men's basketball team dominated Manhattanville, 71-48, in the championship game of the AJ Buchanan Classic on Saturday at Kennedy Gym.
 
The Pride, who improve to 3-2, lead the game for 35:36 of the 40 minutes played. The Valiants fall to 3-2 and only led for 4% of the game, which accounted for 1:37.
 
Sophomore Sardayah Sambo (Middletown, Del.) led all scorers as he recorded 22 points on 11-of-17 shooting from the field. The guard added a team high nine rebounds with seven of those coming on the defensive side. Sambo was named the Most Valuable Player of the AJ Buchanan Classic.
 
Nick Jackson (Rockville, Md.) recorded a career high 15 points in the victory. The freshman forward shot three-of-four from three-point range and added six rebounds.
 
Senior Laron Byrd (Philadelphia Pa.) finished with eight points on three-of-eight shooting. The guard, who was named to All-Tournament Team, led the Pride with five assist in the victory.
 
Widener forced Manhattanville to have 14 turnovers. The Pride outscored the Valiants in the point 34-26, while they also recorded 11 fastbreak points.
 
Alex Tuci led the Valiants in scoring as he recorded 13 points on five-of-ten shooting. He also led Manhattanville with seven rebounds.   
 
Widener will be back in action after the Thanksgiving holiday, as they host Haverford at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 29th at the Schwartz Athletic Center.
