Men's Basketball Falls to Swarthmore in Non-Conference Tilt

CHESTER, Pa. (Nov. 18, 2015) – Senior Laron Byrd (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Pride in scoring as the Widener men's basketball squad fell to non-conference foe Swarthmore, 76-68, on Wednesday night at the Schwartz Athletic Center.
 
The Pride falls to 1-2, while the Garnet improves to 1-0.
 
Byrd was two-of-two from three-point range and eight-of-13 from the field. The senior guard added three steals and three assists in 31 minutes of play. He recorded 20 of Widener's 28 points off the bench.
 
Senior forward David Nicholson (Odenton, Md.) added 15 points on five-of-nine shooting from the field. He was three-for-three from the charity line and recorded three defensive rebounds.
 
Chris Bourne led all scorers as he notched 24 points on 12-of-17 shooting in 29 minutes played. He added nine boards and two steals for the Garnet.
 
Sardayah Sambo (Middletown, Del.) added ten points and seven blocks against the Garnet. The sophomore guard was three-of-eight from the field and four-of-seven from the free-throw line. Junior center Jermaine Kamara (Cork, Ireland) led the Pride on the glass with eight rebounds. He added six points on three-of-four shooting in 19 minutes of play.
 
Widener will head to Purchase, N.Y. to take on York (N.Y.) at 6:00 p.m. in AJ Buchanan Classic held by Mahattanville College.
