Men's Basketball Falls in Tip-Off for Austim Awareness Title Game to Salisbury

CHESTER, Pa. (Nov. 14, 2015) –  The Widener men's basketball team could not keep the hot hand as they fell to Salisbury, 83-50, in the championship game of the 7th Annual Tip-Off for Autism Awareness Tournament on Saturday at the Schwartz Athletic Center.
 
The Pride fall to 1-1, while the Seagulls improve to 2-0.
 
Samuel Smith (Wyomissing, Pa.) and Laron Byrd (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Pride in scoring, as they each recorded eight points. Smith added three defensive rebounds, while Byrd notched one offensive board and two defensive rebounds in 15 minutes of play.
 
Byrd was one-of-three from the field, but shot six-of-eight from the free throw line.
 
Junior Kendall Green (Mount Laurel, N.J.) recorded seven points on one-of-two shooting from the field. He also shot four-of-five from the free-throw line with three rebounds and one steal.
 
Sardayah Sambo (Middletown, Del.) added seven points and one block for the Pride. The sophomore also recorded three rebounds in 25 minutes played.
 
Justin Witmer led all scorers as he recorded 23 points on six-of-12 shooting, including five-of-11 from three-point range.
 
Pat Morgan (Washington College), Kris O'Connor (Rowan), Sardayah Sambo (Widener), Justin Witmer (Salisbury) and Gordon Jeter (Salisbury) were named to the All-Tournament team. Jeter was named the Most Valuable Player of the 7th Annual Widener University Tip-Off for Autism Awareness.
 
Widener will be back in action on Wednesday as they host Swarthmore at 8:00 p.m. at the Schwartz Athletic Center.
