READING, Pa. (Oct. 31, 2015) – Sophomore
Christine Kunzler (Livermore, Calif.) factored into four event victories as the Widener University women's swimming team cruised to a 190-71 dual meet victory over Albright on Saturday afternoon. The Pride captured 13 of the 14 events to remain undefeated against league opponents this winter.
Kunzler registered individual crowns in the 50-yard freestyle and 200 free with times of 25.22 seconds and 2:00.39, respectively, to lead the way for Widener. She most notably bettered her competition in the 200 free by nearly five seconds while also anchoring the winning 200-yard medley relay that hit the wall in 1:33.31 and contributing to the first-place 400-yard free relay that capped the dual meet win with a mark of 2:56.68. Freshman
Lauren Griffith (Doylestown, Pa.), who easily captured the 200 individual medley in 2:23.37, also swam on both relays.
Junior
Melaney Heald (Georgetown, Del.) and senior
Kori Meighan (Holmes, Pa.) were also double winners for the Pride in individual events. Heald won the 100 back in 1:04.97 and the 100 free in 56.17, while Meaghan took first in the 100 breast in 1:15.97 and the 200 breast in 2:43.70. Both upperclassmen also swam on a winning relay.
Widener (2-1, MAC 2-0) treks to Messiah to face the host Falcons along with Hood and FDU-Florham on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 1:00 p.m.
