Men's Swimming | 10/31/2015 9:02:00 PM

READING, Pa. (Oct. 31, 2015) – Albright posted first-place finishes in the last five events to earn a 138-124 comeback victory over the Widener University men's swimming team on Saturday afternoon. The Lions won nine of the 14 events to edge out the Pride in Middle Atlantic Conference action.

The back-and forth meet featured two ties and three lead changes between the schools. The Pride trailed by 16 points through six events, but junior All-American Ian Gaynor (Donegal, Ireland) captured victories in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events with times of 20.91 and 46.84 seconds, respectively, and classmate Michael Grajek (Freehold, N.J.) won the 200 back in 2:04.85 to lift the visitors ahead by an 87-82 score after nine races. Albright, however, recovered by winning the next four individual events to record the dual meet win.

Gaynor and Grajek paced Widener by winning two individual events apiece and swimming on the winning 200-yard medley relay at the beginning of the meet along with senior Andrew Madore (State College, Pa.) and junior Jeffrey Hicks (White Haven, Pa.). In addition to touching the wall first in the 200 back, Grajeck was victorious in the 200 free in 1:52.35.

Widener (2-1, MAC 1-1) treks to Messiah to face the host Falcons along with Hood and FDU-Florham on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 1:00 p.m.
