Schailey's Second Half Goal Propels Men's Soccer to Comeback Victory

GLENSIDE, Pa. (October 24, 2015) – Freshman Mac Schailey (State College, Pa.) recorded the game-winning goal early in the second half as the Widener men's soccer team defeated Arcadia, 3-1, in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play on Saturday.
 
The Pride improve to 7-8-1, and 3-3 in MAC Commonwealth play, while the Knights fall to 9-5-3 overall and 2-2-2 in league place.
 
Schailey buried the ball into the left corner of the net on a shot from the top of the 18-yard mark to give the Blue and Gold a one goal advantage in the 54th minute.
 
Widener trailed Arcadia, 1-0, after Ryan Hammer recorded his sixth goal of the year in the ninth minute. Less than five minutes into the second half, Eric Taylor (Bensalem, Pa.) tied the conference game up at one apiece. The forward took a shot off of a rebound in the 50th minute.
 
Taylor added an insurance goal in the 56th minute for the Blue and Gold. The senior's fourth goal of the year was assisted by classmate Eric Bihlear (Tabernacle, N.J.).
 
Widener outshot Arcadia 21-19, including a nine to seven advantage for shots on goal. Senior Zac Furia (Springfield, Pa.) recorded four shots on the day for the Pride. Junior David Sousa (Springfield, Pa.) recorded five saves in net for the Blue and Gold.
 
Widener is currently tied for third place with Hood and Lebanon Valley as the league heads into its final week of regular season play.
 
The Pride will be back in action on Wednesday when the host Alvernia at Leslie C. Quick Stadium in a pivotal MAC Commonwealth action at 7:00 p.m.
