Men's Soccer Falls to Messiah in MAC Commonwealth Action

CHESTER, Pa. (October 20, 2015) – The Widener men's soccer team was unable to gain momentum as they fell to conference opponent Messiah, 3-0, on Tuesday at Leslie C. Quick Stadium.
 
The Pride fall to 6-8-1, and 2-3 Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play, while the Falcons improve to 10-4-1 and 2-3 in league play.
 
Messiah opened the scoring early, as Benji Kennel knocked home the opening tally in the fifth minute. Kennell broke through the middle of the defense with the help from a pass by Jacob Bender.
 
Nick West added a goal for the Falcons in the 15th minute, and just two minutes later Danny Rowe added the third goal for Messiah. West's goal was assisted by Will Cochran, while Rowe finished off a corner kick from Bryant Myer.
 
Widener was outshot by Messiah, 15-9, including nine to one on target. Junior David Sousa (Springfield, Pa.) recorded six saves in the league match.
 
Freshman Mac Schailey (State College, Pa.) added two shots, while classmate Kevin McKenna (North Wales, Pa.) recorded three shots.
 
Senior Tori Remondelli (Point Pleasant, N.J.) forced Connor Bell to make one save in the game.
 
The Blue and Gold will be back in action on Saturday as they travel Glenside, Pa. to take on Arcadia in a pivotal Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth game.
