GRANTHAM, Pa. (Oct. 17, 2015) – Nationally-ranked Messiah scored early in the first half and late in the second to record a 2-0 victory over the Widener University field hockey team on Saturday afternoon at Anderson Field.
Messiah (9-5, MAC Commonwealth 4-0), which outshot the Pride by a 27-0 margin in the contest, got on the board off a penalty corner when Taylor Holt finished a pass from Carissa Gehman less than 10 minutes into the contest. With the Widener offense being held in check, the Falcons then added insurance when Gehman found the back of the cage in the 66th minute to close out the scoring.
Falcon goalkeeper Shelby Landes picked up the win without having to make a stop, while junior
Mikayla Ninos (Northampton, Pa.) made a career-high 13 saves in the setback for Widener (6-6, MAC Commonwealth 1-3).
The Pride will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 21 when they host Albright at 7:00 p.m.
