OWINGS MILLS, Md. (Oct. 13, 2015) – Stevenson had three players record double-digit kills en route to recording a 3-1 victory over the Widener University volleyball team on Tuesday evening at Owings Mills Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-18, 25-16, 16-25 and 25-18.
The first set was nip and tuck at the beginning with the teams exchanging points and recording five ties. Stevenson, however, broke a 5-5 deadlock when Sara Bollinger set up Annika Schwartz for a fill to ignite a 5-0 run. Widener brought the deficit down to two points on several occasions before ultimately falling by a 25-18 score.
After Stevenson scored the first three points of the second set, the Pride answered by scoring the next four to take the lead. The Mustangs then scored eight in a row and never trailed the rest of the way en route to a 25-16 set victory.
Freshman
Kelsey Lee started the third set by recording two service aces over a stretch of three rallies to get things going for the Pride. Classmates
Nicole Dorman (East Norriton, Pa.) and Jane Kalinock (Ellicott City, Md.) followed with a block to make it 4-0, as the visitors never trailed in the frame to prolong the match to a fourth set. Widener built its lead up to as many as nine points when freshman
Kierston Forney (Manassas, Va.) recorded consecutive kills to make it 21-12 and eventually won by a 25-16 score.
The Pride started the fourth set strong and led by a 5-3 score on an attacking error by Moriah Savage, but the Mustangs recovered to win the set and the match. Following a ball handling error by junior
