Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Falls to Stevenson at Mustang Stadium

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (Oct. 10, 2015) – The Widener University men's soccer team was dealt a 1-0 setback by Stevenson on Saturday evening at Mustang Stadium.

After an evenly played and scoreless opening half which saw both teams combine to attempt seven shots, Stevenson (4-8-1, MACC 1-2) was able to get on the board first when Thomas Taylor unleashed a rocket from the top of the box in the 68th minute.

Despite surrendering the goal, Widener responded by seizing control of the match and not allowing the Mustangs to attempt a shot the rest of the way. Freshman Kevin McKenna (North Wales, Pa.) and senior Tori Remondelli (Point Pleasant, N.J.) had back-to-back chances to net the equalizer, and senior Kyle Lynch (Hatboro, Pa.) got a look from the far left wing in the final minute. But all of the attempts to even the score were unsuccessful, which allowed the Mustangs to escape with the one-goal win.

Widener outshot Stevenson by a count of 11-9 and also had a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks. Ryan Callinan made six saves to pick up the shutout win for the Mustangs, while the Pride's David Sousa (Springfield, Pa.) turned away four shots in the loss.

Widener (5-7-1, MACC 1-2) returns to action when it hosts Hood on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. during Homecoming Weekend.
