CHESTER, Pa. (Oct. 10, 2015) –  The Widener field hockey team fought back with two goals in the second half as the Pride fell to Stevenson, 3-2, at Edith R. Dixon Field on senior day.

Widener falls to 5-5 and 1-2 in league play, while Stevenson improves to 6-7 and 2-1 in MAC Commonwealth action.

The Pride trailed 1-0 at half, behind a goal from Rosemarie Neiva in the 28th minute. Widener opened up the second half with a diving goal from Alyssa Buckley (Flourtown, Pa.) in the 43rd minute.

The junior defender saw a loose ball in front of the net just moments after the Blue and Gold had taken a penalty corner. Buckley connected for her fourth goal of the season.

Alexis Young connected to give the Mustangs a lead in the 60th minute. The forward deflected the ball into the back of the net on a shot taken by her teammate Katelyn Byram .

Shortly after Stevenson took a 2-1 lead in the game, junior Colleen Riley (Tannersville, Pa.) scored on a rebound. The initial shot, taken by Buckley, caused Talia Parish to make a tough save, but Riley was there to tap the ball into the back of the net.

Sara McVey scored the game-winner for Stevenson in the 68th minute as she took a shot to the left of Pride goaltender Mikayla Ninos (Northhampton, Pa.).

Ninos notched three saves in the game, as the Mustangs recorded 13 shots in the game. The Pride held the advantage with seven shots taken in the second half, with three of them coming in the last minute of play.

Prior to Saturday's Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth game, the Blue and Gold honored the three graduating seniors. Ashley Aires (Bayville, N.J.), Brittany Lavin (Phillipsburg, N.J.) and team manager Jessica McAllister were honored for their dedication and commitment on and off the field for the Widener field hockey program.

Widener will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to take on Wilkes in non-conference play at 7:00 p.m.
