Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Defeats Messiah; Snap Season Long Losing Streak

Courtney Colella (Cinnaminson, NJ) led women's basketball to victory as Widener defeated Messiah, 65-61, in Grantham, Pa.
 
The senior forward recorded a team high 16 points and eight rebounds in the victory. Six of her boards came on the offensive end for the Pride. She added one assist, one steal and one block.
 
Kristina Reiter (Sewell, NJ) added 15 points and five rebounds in 35 minutes played. She recorded two steals, two assist and one block for the Pride.
 
Dominique Seamon led Messiah (11-9, 7-4 CC) with a game high 21 points. She recorded two rebounds, two assist, and one steal in 34 minutes played. Gillian Glackin recorded a game-high 12 rebounds for the Falcons.
 
In the process of snapping a five game losing streak, Widener (9-11, 3-8 CC) earned their first ever regular season victory over Messiah in Grantham, Pa. Last time out against the Falcons, the Pride dropped a heart breaker 67-65 on December 6th in Chester, Pa. The last victory for the Pride on Messiah's home court came on Feburary 22nd, 2012 in the semifinal round of the Commonwealth Conference Tournament. Jennifer Egee hit two free throws with one second left to give Widener the 60-58 victory over Messiah.

On Saturday, the Pride outrebounded the Falcons 45-37 in the Commonwealth victory. Widener recorded 36 points in the paint and 19 points off of 22 turnovers. 
 
Freshman Allison Gallagher (Souderton, PA) added 14 points for the Pride. She shot five-of-18 from the field and three-of-three from the free throw line. Junior Ally Ferrucci (Vineland, NJ) added eight assist and four points in the victory.
 
Widener will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Lycoming in Commonwealth Conference action at 6:00 pm in the Schwartz Athletic Center.
