Swimming Swept In Road Meet at Washington (MD)

Widener men's and women's swimming fell on the road to Washington (MD) in Chestertown, MD on Friday.

The men lost their first meet of the season, 175-86, as the women fell to the Shorewomen, 166-96.

Michael Grajek (Freehold, NJ) earned three second place finishes for the Pride. In the 200-yard freestyle, the sophomore finished with a time of 1:48.48, while he finished the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:04.84. He helped the 200-yard medley relay, comprised of junior Andy Madore (State College, Pa), sophomore Jeffery Hicks (White Haven, Pa), and freshman Tom Platt (Wallingford, Pa), to a second place finish with a time of 1:41.70

Madore finished the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.24.

Platt finished first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.41.

On the women's side, Christine Kunzler (Livermore, CA) earned two victories and a second place finish. In the 50-yard freestyle she finished with a time of 25.32. Just moments later, the freshman recorded a time of 54.57 for a first place finish in the 100-yard freestyle.

She helped the 200-yard medley relay to a second place finish. The relay comprised of juniors Annie Walker (New Castle, DE) Erin Neugebauer (Eden Prairie, MN), and freshman Liz O'Sullivan (Somers Point, NJ).

Walker finished the 100-yard backstroke in second place with a time of 1:06.32.

Sophomore Melaney Heald (Georgetown, DE) added a victory for the Pride. She finished the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.98.

Widener will close out the regular season with a Middle Atlantic Conference match-up against Arcadia on Saturday, January 24th, in Glenside, Pa.
