Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Taylor Nets Three Goals, As Men's Soccer Defeats Gwynedd Mercy

Junior Eric Taylor (Bensalem, Pa) scored three goals as Widener cruised to a 6-2 victory over Gwynedd Mercy in Gwynedd Valley, Pa.

Taylor headed home a pass in the eighth minute to tie the game, 1-1.  The junior was assisted by classmate Tori Remondelli (Point Pleasant, NJ).

Several minutes later, Taylor took a shot from inside the box to give Widener (5-1-1) the lead. Junior Ross Staudt (Marlton, NJ) was credited with the assist on Taylor's second goal of the game.

Taylor capped his three-goal day with a shot from inside the box in the 50th minute. The junior became the seventh person to score at least three goals in a game, which is tied for second all-time in an individual game. The previous record was broken by Remondelli's four-goal outing Wednesday against Penn State Brandywine.

Remondelli added two goals in the victory over Gwynedd Mercy (0-7). The junior finishes the week with six goals and one assists for a total of 13 points in two matches.  He now is fifth in school history with 19 career goals.

Sophomore Tommy O'Keefe (Lutherville, MD) netted his first goal of the season in the 61st minute.

Dave Sousa (Springfield, Pa) allowed one goal in 60 minutes of play. The sophomore recorded one save in his fifth victory.

Widener takes the pitch next Wednesday, when it hosts Lancaster Bible at 7:00 pm at Leslie C. Quick Stadium.
