Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey's Opening Day Winning Streak Snapped With 1-0 Loss at Immaculata

Widener held control in the first half, but saw its five-game winning streak on opening day halted with a 1-0 loss at Immaculata.

Widener in the first half owned a 7-4 shots edge and closed the game with eight attempts.  Freshman Kayla Herr (Lancaster, PA) had three shots in her debut with junior Ashley Aires (Bayville, NJ), named second team all-conference last year, and sophomore Colleen Riley (Tannersville, PA) getting two each.

But the Mighty Macs (1-0), who owned a 12-1 shots edge in the second half, got on the scoreboard in the 52nd minute. Tiffany Lockfeld had a penalty corner and fed the ball to Ashley O'Donnell, who found the back of the cage.

Senior Maggie Karmeris (Wilmington, DE), named third team Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-America last spring, has nine saves for the Pride (0-1).  Freshman Lauren DelRomano (Broomall, PA) added a defensive save.

Sarah Pasternak amassed four saves and O'Donnell fired six shots for Immaculata.

Widener gets back at it Thursday, when it visits Neumann for a 5:00 pm contest in Aston, PA.
