Baseball Takes Two From Stevenson to Complete Three-Game Sweep

(Game 1) / (Game 2)

Sophomore Joe Santone (Blackwood, NJ), junior Robert Barth (Norristown, PA) and senior Colin Weiss (Red Hill, PA) combined to limit Stevenson to just 10 hits in completing a Commonwealth Conference home doubleheader sweep, 4-3 and 6-1.

Coming off Friday's 14-7 victory in the opener of the three-game set, Widener scored four unearned runs in the last of third inning to grab a 4-1 lead in today's first contest.  Senior Sam Christie (Upper Darby, PA) lined a double down the left-field line, junior Paul Shepherd (Secane, PA) walked and each scored on separate errors from Stevenson first baseman Ben Hallam.  Junior Matt Scherer (Havertown, PA) drew a bases-loaded walk and a fielder's choice from freshman Bob Barnett (Glenolden, PA) allowed junior Michael Rytelewski (Brick, NJ) to score.

Barth came on in the top of the seventh to notch his second career save.  He allowed Ian Eberly to reach on a leadoff single and get to third, but was left stranded.

Santone (3-2) pitched an effective six innings, striking out four and allowing three runs and five hits over six innings.  Barth got his second save of the series, permitting just a hit and a walk in the seventh.

Freshman Justin Healey (Ocean City, NJ) had the Pride's only other hit besides Christie in the contest.

Greg Myers (2-3) retired the game's first seven batters, but was tagged for four unearned runs and two hits over six innings with five strikeouts and four walks for the Mustangs.  Matt Myers closed with two hits.

Widener in game two again put up a four spot, this time in the first inning.  Barnett drew a bases-loaded walk, freshman Nicholas Enos (Williamstown, NJ) has a two-run single for his first multi-RBI contest and Healey added an RBI groundout.

It was more than enough for Weiss (3-0), who was in complete control for his second complete game of the season to move to 5-1 for his career.  He notched a personal-best seven strikeouts, yielding one run and four hits over seven innings and only facing three batters above the minimum.

Enos finished with two hits and Healey amassed two RBI for the Pride (14-9, 8-4 CC).

Alec Romanowski (3-3) gave up six runs – one earned – and six hits over six innings with four strikeouts for Stevenson (8-12, 3-9).  Tom Goulian lifted a sacrifice fly in the second inning.
