Women's Lacrosse Ends Season With Convincing 18-5 Victory at Elizabethtown

(box score)

Widener notched a quartet of hat tricks for the contest in putting on a scoring clinic for an 18-5 season-ending victory at Elizabethtown.

Facing the reigning Commonwealth Conference champion in what now is a non-league matchup, Widener owned a 10-3 halftime lead thanks to an 18-12 edge in shots.

Junior Pinky Schneider (Moorestown, NJ) scored twice in the first two minutes and sophomore Caitlyn Mullner (Aston, PA) added one for a 3-0 Pride lead.  After the Blue Jays got one back, junior Mackenzie Lindquist (Ocean City, NJ), senior Amy Albano (Columbia, MD) and junior Melissa Sailey (Swedesboro, NJ) all found the back of the net for a 6-1 margin.

Elizabethtown got goals from Adriana Bertolino and Jessica Binnig just under a minute apart for a 6-3 deficit before Widener turned out the lights.  Four different players scored over the final 12 minutes of the half for the Pride, including a back-breaking goal from Lindquist with eight seconds left for a 10-3 margin.

Lindquist added another early in the second half to cap the run and give Widener an 11-3 cushion.  The defense also is to be commended, holding Elizabethtown without a goal for just over 17 minutes bridging both halves to cement the contest.

Albano had three goals and two assists in her final game and ends her season with 25 assists, tied for the eighth-best single-season mark in school history.  Her 45 career assists places her two out of the school's top 10 list.

Schneider had three goals and an assist to win the team title with 34 and close tied with Albano with 42 points.  Lindquist recorded three goals, an assist, five caused turnovers and five draw controls for a personal single-season high of 82 draw controls.

Muller netted three goals, Sailey and freshman Jamie Parent (Millville, NJ) had two each with junior Megan Dunn (Oxford, PA) making three saves over 46 minutes for the Pride (4-11).

Binnig scored twice, Krissy Pennell posted six caused turnovers and Beata Palosz made seven saves for Elizabethtown (1-14), which committed 29 turnovers.
