Two In a Row for Women's Lacrosse, 15-12 Over Albright

(box score)

Widener won its second Commonwealth Conference game in a row on Wednesday night, 15-12 over Albright in Reading, PA.

Widener (2-7, 2-1 CC) began the season with some tough loses, but after defeating Hood on Saturday and Albright tonight, the squad is back on the winning track.

Junior midfielder Mackenzie Lindquist (Ocean City, NJ) scored four goals for the second time in two games, as well as winning 11 draw controls, causing two turnovers and picking up three ground balls.  After being selected second team all-conference in 2013, Lindquist has returned this season to lead the Pride with 19 goals, six free-position scores, 39 draw controls and each of the two game-winning goals.

Not to be outdone, sophomore Caitlyn Mullner (Aston, PA) had a career high game as well, with four goals on six shots and an assist.  Mullner stand fifth on the team with 10 goals and two assists for a total of 12 points.

In the first half, freshman Jamie Parent (Millville, NJ) scored two early goals to keep Widener tied.  Albright (5-7, 0-2) held a slight lead with minutes remaining, but three straight goals from the Widener attack gave the visitors the 8-7 halftime advantage.

Junior attack Pinky Schneider (Morrestown, NJ) scored the last Widener goal of the first half off a pass from Lindquist from the right side.  Schneider then returned to score the first goal of the second, this time off a pass from Mullner.  Schneider scored three goals and remains second on the team with 23 total points thus far in the season.

With Widener ahead 11-10, Mullner scored a goal from the left side off a pass from senior captain Amy Albano (Columbia, MD).  Albano leads the Pride on the season with 16 assists and 25 total points.

Lindquist scored two unassisted goals in the final minutes to secure the victory.

Junior captain Megan Dunn (Oxford, PA) made six saves from between the pipes to bring her season total to 70.

The Pride will be back in action on Saturday against non-conference Susquehanna at Edith R. Dixon Field, beginning at 1:00 pm.
