(box score)

Widener fell short of Commonwealth Conference powerhouse Stevenson, 13-4, on Thursday night at Edith R. Dixon Field.

Widener (3-10, 3-3 CC) ranked fourth in the league heading into the contest, three places behind Stevenson.

Widener junior goalkeeper Megan Dunn (Oxford, PA) made 12 saves and opposing goalkeeper Leanne Bittner made 10 saves to lead Stevenson, including four saves on free position attempts.

Stevenson (10-4, 5-0) scored the first four goals of the contest, before Widener junior Mackenzie Lindquist (Ocean City, NJ) scored on a free-position attempt from the left side of the net.  Linquist finished with two goals on five shots, along with leading the team with four ground balls and three draw controls.

With time ticking down in the first half, Stevenson held a 9-1 lead over the Pride thanks to two goals apiece from Marissa Meiklejohn and Leah Warner.  With five seconds remaining in the half, senior captain Amy Albano (Columbia, MD) beat a defender and scored an unassisted goal to give the Pride some momentum heading into halftime.  Albano finished with two draw controls and one caused turnover.

Widener played superior defense in the second half, holding the Mustangs to only four goals in 30 minutes of play.

Offensively, freshman Brooke Clasing (Shrewsbury, PA) scored her third goal of the year on an unassisted shot with three minutes remaining.

Similar to the end of the first half, Widener added a final goal in the closing seconds when Lindquist beat two defenders and ripped a shot from 10 feet.  Lindquist ranks second on the team with 27 goals and 33 points.

Widener returns to action on Wednesday against Lebanon Valley to conclude the conference regular season.  The game will take place at home, beginning at 7:00 pm.
