Women's Lacrosse Falls, 14-6, to Ursinus

(box score)

Widener ran into a tough Ursinus squad and, despite closing within two goals early in the second half, was handed a 14-6 loss at Edith R. Dixon Field.

Ursinus (4-1) raced to a 6-2 lead thanks mainly to Jayne Verman, who was almost unstoppable in the fan with three goals during that stretch.

Widener (0-4) got a marker from junior Pinky Schneider (Moorestown, NJ) with 1:37 left in the half off a great pass from senior Amy Albano (Columbia, MD) to make it 6-3.  Junior Megan Granata (Broomall, PA) then netted a free-position goal 30 seconds into the second half for a 6-4 contest.

But the Bears rattled off the next four goals for a 10-4 margin.  Verman again was on the spot getting two more goals with Emma Ebert and Kitty Dawson each contributing one.

Granata, Schneider and junior Mackenzie Lindquist (Ocean City, NJ) had two goals apiece, sophomore Megan Mills (Riverton, NJ) amassed five draw controls and junior Megan Dunn (Oxford, PA) totaled five saves over 49 minutes for the Pride.

Verman scored five times, Dawson and Nicole Kovacs netted two and Margaret Philbin made eight saves for the Bears.

Widener is on the road Thursday at Swarthmore, starting at 7:00 pm.
