(box score)

A back-and-forth battle resulted in a 15-13 loss for Widener against Cabrini on Saturday afternoon in Radnor, PA.

Widener (0-3) jumped to an early 2-0 lead on two goals from junior Megan Granata (Broomall, PA). First off a free-position shot and second on an unassisted drive from the right side of the net. Granata led the Pride with four goals and one assist on seven shots, and ranked second on the team with six ground balls.

Cabrini soon tied the score at 2-2, before junior Mackenzie Lindquist (Ocean City, NJ) regained the lead for the Pride by placing a shot into the top right corner of the net. Lindquist, returning second team All-Conference in 2013, netted two goals and two assists, along with winning four draw controls and picking up two ground balls.

Cabrini controlled the rest of the first half, topping it off in a goal with 36 seconds left to gain a 9-5 lead. The Cavaliers then relaxed and twelve seconds later Lindquist netted an unassisted goal to decrease the margin to three.

Widener gained momentum coming out of halftime and scored four of the next five goals to tie the score at 10. Sophomore attack Morgan Scott (Cinnaminson, NJ) stepped up for the Pride and scored two consecutive goals to begin the half. This was followed by senior captain Amy Albano (Columbia, MD) and junior Pinky Schneider (Morrestown, NJ) with each a goal of their own. Albano scored two goals in the contest on three shots and set a team season-high with nine ground balls.

Widener fell behind after Cabrini's Sasha Wozniak netted three goals to guide the Cavaliers to a 15-11 lead with only minutes remaining.

Widener did not quit, as Granata scored on an unassisted shot, followed by junior Melissa Sailey (Swedesboro, NJ) with one of her two goals on the day. With time ticking down, the Pride were unable to score those two crucial goals to bring the game into overtime.

In goal for the Pride, junior captain Megan Dunn (Oxford, PA) made a season-high 14 saves compared to Cabrini's Janel Folkomer's seven.

Wozniak led Cabrini (1-2) with seven goals and one assist. Bree Thompson led in the midfield with nine ground balls, one goal and one assist. Defensively, Erin McLaughlin picked up eight ground balls and won three draw controls for the Cavaliers.
