Women's Lacrosse Handed 16-12 Loss at Neumann

(box score)

Widener fought back to even things early in the second half, but could not overcome a strong offensive output from Neumann in a 16-12 rain-soaked loss in Aston, PA.

Down 8-6 at halftime, the Pride netted the first two goals in the second half to pull level.  Pinky Schneider (Moorestown, NJ) scored just under two minutes into the half and fellow junior Megan Granata (Broomall, PA) got a free-position marker less than a minute later.

The Knights put home the next three tallies to go up 11-8 just eight minutes into the half.  Taylor Klever, Jordan Hopkins and Koula Gregor scored for Neumann over a 3 1/2 minute span.

Widener was not done, getting two more to close to 11-10 with 12:55 remaining.  Sophomore Megan Mills (Riverton, NJ) got a free-position goal and senior Amy Albano (Columbia, MD) scored off a feed from freshman Jamie Parent (Millville, NJ).

The Pride at this point had held the Knights off the scoreboard for more than 10 minutes and limited them in the half to only 11 shots.  But Neumann scored four straight in just over two minutes to open a 15-10 lead and take command.  Koula, Mandy Fedak, Shae Risley, Gabbey Murray all tallied for the Knights in that stretch.

Junior Melissa Sailey (Swedesboro, NJ) had three goals to match her career high and added an assist with Schneider also scoring three times to go with seven draw controls for the Pride.  Mills scored twice, Albano had a goal and two assists, Parent had a goal and an assist with sophomore Morgan Scott (Cinnaminson, NJ) also scoring.

Junior Megan Dunn (Oxford, PA) made 12 saves in just over 54 minutes for the Pride (0-2).

Lex McIntyre had a game with three goals, seven ground balls and six draw controls for the Knights (2-1).  Gregor netted three goals with Christina Hughes totaling 11 saves and eight ground balls.

Widener is back on the road Saturday at Cabrini for a 3:00 pm first draw.
