Gaynor Sets Records as Men's Swimming Remains Unbeaten

Men's swimming defeated three teams at the Messiah Quad Meet, while the women earned a victory for Widener in Grantham, Pa.
 
The men defeated Hood 120-84, FDU-Florham 169-24 and host Messiah 103-101.
 
Ian Gaynor (Donegal, Ireland) set two pool records on his way to victory in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle. The sophomore recorded a time 20.92 in the 50-yard freestyle and a final time of 46.20 in the 100-yard freestyle.
 
Gaynor also helped the 200-yard medley relay to a first place finish. The relay combined of senior Andrew Olchowecky  (Philadelphia, Pa), junior Andy Madore (State College, Pa), and sophomore Jeffery Hicks (White Haven, Pa) finished the race in 1:41.31.
 
Hicks placed third in the 100-yard butterfly race with a time of 56.87.
 
Widener (5-0-1, 4-0-1 CC) also received a first and third place finish from sophomore Michael Grajek (Freehold, NJ). The sophomore won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:49.12. Grajek finished third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.90.
 
On the women's side, the Pride defeated FDU-Florham, 160-25, but fell to Hood 121-81 and Messiah 137-61.
 
Widener (2-4, 2-4 CC) earned two runner-up finishes from sophomore Erin Neugebauer (Eden Praire, MN) and freshman Christine Kunzler (Livermore, CA).
 
Neugebauer finished the 100-yard breaststroke just .01 second behind the winner Sarah Woods. The sophomore finished the race with a time of 1:11.70. Neugebauer finished the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:20.72.
 
Kunzler finished the 100-yard freestyle race in second place with a time of 55.28.  The freshman finished the 200-yard freestyle in 2:02.09 for her second runner-up finish of the day.

Kunzler and Neugebauer teamed up with junior Annie Walker (New Castle, DE) and sophomore Melaney Heald (Georgetown, DE) to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:45.60.
 
Widener will begin competition next weekend at the F&M Invitational in Lancaster, Pa on Friday, November 21.
