Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Dealt 79-67 Loss at Wesley

Despite 20 points from freshman Allison Gallagher (Souderton, PA), Widener gave up a run late in the contest and could not rally in a 79-67 setback at Wesley in Dover, DE.

The Pride (3-2) closed to 61-58 with 7:29 left when junior Ally Ferrucci (Vineland, NJ) hit a layup.  But that was as close as they would get with the Wolverines using a 6-1 run in just under four minutes for a 67-59 cushion with 3:49 remaining.  Brionna Johnson scored four points in that spurt and Kiara Johnson added two free throws.

The story for the Pride continued to be Gallagher, who reached a season high in points, has scored in double figures every game this season and now is averaging a team-best 17.0 points per contest.  She shot 7-of-17 from the floor tonight and canned a pair of 3-pointers.

Junior Brianna Wylie (Mount Laurel, NJ) matched her career best with 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting and hauled in nine rebounds for Widener.  Senior Kristina Reiter (Sewell, NJ) scored nine points and Ferrucci added eight and eight assists.

Brionna Johnson had 20 points and 14 rebounds, Alexis Stroud netted 17 points, Roniece Williams scored 14 and Tiyanna Gibbs added 11 for Wesley (3-2), which shot 47 percent (26-of-55) from the field.

The Wolverines went 22-of-32 from the line and the Pride only were 9-for-18.

Widener is home next Wednesday to open Commonwealth Conference play against Albright, starting at 6:00 pm.
