Sambo Leads Men's Basketball Past Penn State Lehigh Valley in Season Opener

Sophomore guard Sardayah Sambo (Middletown, DE) led men's basketball past Penn State Lehigh Valley as Widener defeated the Nittany Lions in the season opener 97-74 at the Schwartz Center.
 
Sambo recorded a team high 18 points in the victory. He shot six for eight from both the field and the free throw line. The guard also collected nine rebounds and recorded two assists.
 
Junior David Nicholson (Odenton, MD) finished with 16 points for the Pride. The forward shot six for nine from the field and two for four from long distance. He grabbed six defensive boards and dished out a team high six assists. The junior recorded two steals and one blocked shot in the victory.
 
Widener (1-0) shot 71 percent from the charity line and 61 percent from the field. Penn State Lehigh Valley (0-1) shot 44% from the field.
 
Forward Jermaine Kamara (Cork, Ireland) recorded a team high ten boards, with eight of the coming on defense. The junior also recorded two blocked shots in the game.
 
The Pride held the advantage on the boards over the Nittany Lions 44-25.

Misericordia defeated Adrian in the second game of the day, 61-52. The Cougars were led by Joe Busacca with 14 points. He went four for six in the field and six for seven from the free throw line. Erik Kearns led the team with seven rebounds. Adrian was led by Justin Webster with 14 points and ten rebounds.
 
Widener will play next on Sunday in the Tip-Off for Autism Awareness Championship against Misericordia at 3:00 pm at the Schwartz Center. Penn State Lehigh Valley and Adrian will play at 1:00 pm in the consolation game of the Tip-Off for Autism Awareness Tournament.
