Men's Swimming Ties Albright at 131; Women Fall, 147-115

Widener's men's swimming team played to a 131-131 tie with Albright and the women were dealt a 147-115 loss in Middle Atlantic Conference action at Schwartz Center.

Sophomore Ian Gaynor (Donegal, Ireland) was part of four of the five men's victories that included two individual triumphs. He took the 50-yard freestyle in 20.72 seconds and grabbed the 100-yard freestyle in 45.79.

Gaynor was part of the 200-yard medley relay squad that was victorious in 1:39.85 and also included sophomore Michael Grajek (Freehold, NJ), junior Andy Madore (State College, PA) and sophomore Jeffrey Hicks (White Haven, PA). He also was a member of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that forged a tie by winning in 3:16.89 during the final race. That group also included freshman Sajd Kusta (Albania), senior Andrew Olchowecky (Philadelphia, PA) and junior Stephen Ranalli (Wildwood, NJ).

Grajek had two wins on the day, taking the 200-yard freestyle in 1:49.14 in addition to his relay triumph.

Junior Erin Neugebauer (Eden Prairie, MN) amassed three individual triumphs for the women. She grabbed the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.97, the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:33.40 and the 200-yard IM in 2:20.07.

Freshman Christine Kunzler (Livermore, CA) captured the 50-yard freestyle in 25.66 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 55.94 seconds. She also was part of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay squad that closed in 3:52.73 and included sophomore Melaney Heald (Georgetown, DE), junior Annie Walker (New Castle, DE) and sophomore Anna Pelligra (Manasquan, NJ).

The squads return to action next Saturday at the Messiah Quad-Meet in Grantham, PA.
