Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Gets Huge 1-0 Victory at Alvernia

Widener was looking to get into the win column in the Commonwealth Conference and got it in a big way, getting an early goal in a 1-0 triumph at Alvernia in Reading, PA.

Widener (4-5-2, 1-1 CC) got the game's only marker in the 11th minute when Lauren Wilson (National Park, NJ) netted her first collegiate goal, taking a pass from fellow freshman Brooke Palmieri (Erial, NJ) and putting it into the upper left corner.

Junior goalkeeper Olivia Pfautz (Ephrata, PA) made it stand, coming up with two saves off shots from Taylor Landis in the last seven minutes.  Pfautz has played every minute in goal this season after serving as the backup the last two campaigns.

Senior Jenna Pedrick (Sicklerville, NJ) and sophomore Karli Luker (Mechanicsburg, PA) each had three shots for the Pride, who overcame a 14-9 disadvantage.  Pfautz closed with five saves.

Landis ended with four shots and Jessica Plunkett made four saves for the Crusaders (5-7, 1-1).

The Pride now are one of six teams in the league to post a conference victory in the young season and overall have a result in four of their last six contests.

Widener is home Saturday to host Stevenson at noon.
