Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Brittany Lavin's Hat Trick Propels Field Hockey to 6-0 Rout of Cedar Crest

Sophomore Brittany Lavin (Phillipsburg, NJ) recorded a hat trick as Widener left no doubt in a 6-0 blanking of Cedar Crest at Edith R. Dixon Field.

Lavin became the 20th player in school history to record at least three goals in a game and now easily leads the team with six goals and 13 points this season.

Widener (4-7) got the only goal it would need in the 10th minute when Lavin won a scramble in front and knocked it home with sophomore Kaelei Renzi (Mantua, NJ) getting an assist.

Lavin got her second in the 14th minute, tapping home a great pass in front from sophomore Meghan McLaughlin (Woolwich Twp., NJ) for a 2-0 lead.  She completed her hat trick in the 41st minute by slapping home a ball in front courtesy of freshman Kayla Herr (Lancaster, PA).

Herr netted her second of the season in the 45th minute tipping home another great feed from McLaughlin for a 4-0 cushion.  McLaughlin then scored an unassisted marker in the 49th minute and Renzi got her second of the year off a pass from freshman Lauren DelRomano (Broomall, PA) for the final.

Lavin again played great with seven shots in helping Widener to a 20-0 edge.  Senior Maggie Karmeris (Wilmington, DE) and sophomore Mikayla Ninos (Northampton, PA) each played 35 minutes and did not have to make a save.

It is the Pride's most convincing win since a 7-0 triumph over Goucher on October 27, 2012.

Selena Contreras came up with eight saves for the Falcons (0-9).

Widener is on the road Saturday for a Commonwealth Conference game against Stevenson, beginning at 7:00 pm in Owings Mills, MD.
