Late Goals Not Enough as Field Hockey Falls to Stevenson

Two late goals were not enough as Widener fell to Stevenson, 3-2, in a double-overtime Commonwealth Conference game in Owings Mill, MD.
 
Freshman Eliza Newlin (Lewisburg, Pa) scored in the 69th minute to tie the game at 2-2.  Sophomore Meghan McLaughlin (Woolwich Twp, NJ) assisted Newlin's second goal of the season.
 
Widener (4-8, 1-2 CC) trailed by two goals early in the first half to the Mustangs.
 
Sophomore Brittany Lavin (Phillipsburg, NJ) cut the Mustangs lead in half with a goal in the 59th minute. Lavin's unassisted goal was a team-leading seventh goal of the season.
 
Rosemarie Neiva opened the scoring in the third minute on a penalty stroke for Stevenson (8-6, 1-2). Just moments later, Neiva connected again on a penalty stroke to give the Mustangs a two goal advantage.
 
The Pride earned 18 penalty corners in the match.
 
Caitlin Dempsey scored the game-winner for Stevenson in the 99th minute.
 
Senior Maggie Karmereis (Wilmington, DE) recorded eight saves in the loss.
 
Widener will host Muhlenberg at Edith R. Dixon Field in a non-conference match-up on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
