Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Handed 2-1 Loss at Lebanon Valley

Widener rallied to tie Lebanon Valley only to see that draw quickly undone in a tough 2-1 Commonwealth Conference loss in Annville, PA.

The Dutchmen grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute when Austin Freeman drilled one from the right side for his second goal of the season with Kevin Doty getting the assist.

Junior Eric Taylor (Bensalem, PA) has enjoyed a phenomenal season for the Pride and continued that in the 61st minute.  He got the ball on a breakaway and forged a 1-1 tie thanks to his seventh goal of the season, which puts him second on the team.

But Lebanon Valley seven minutes got the decider as John McHale buried one to help his squad overcome a 17-12 shots edge for Widener.

Junior Tori Remondelli (Point Pleasant, NJ) had six shots and sophomore Dave Sousa (Springfield, PA) made five saves for the Pride.

McHale and Connor McDonald had three shots each with Cam Avery amassing three saves for the Dutchmen (6-7-2, 2-2-1 CC).

The loss puts Widener (9-5-1, 2-4) in seventh place in the league, one point behind Lebanon Valley, Arcadia and Alvernia with two games remaining.  The top five teams advance to the conference tournament.

Widener is home Saturday against Albright as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  The men's game starts at 4:00 pm and the women's contest is at 1:00 pm.
