Men's Basketball Falls, 83-74, to Conference Foe Lebanon Valley

Widener battled, but fell in the end to Lebanon Valley 83-74 in Commonwealth Conference play Wednesday night in Annville, PA.
 
Widener (8-10, 2-9 CC) led Lebanon Valley in shooting percentage and rebounding, but the home team's 24 points off turnovers proved to be the difference. The Pride out rebounded the Dutchmen 39-32, along with shooting 45 percent from the field compared 43 percent.  Widener scored 16 points off the bench, ahead of the Lebanon Valley's eight. 
 
Senior captain Rob McPherson (Bowie, MD) made a 3-pointer to put the Pride up 8-5 in the opening minutes.  McPherson finished the day 10-of-19 for 26 points and 10 rebounds to get his fourth double-double of the season. 
 
Lebanon Valley's guard Mike Fasano then made two shots from beyond the arc to put the Dutchmen up by three.  Widener would be unable to regain the lead for the remainder of the game. 
 
Senior captain Bob Makor (Philadelphia, PA) was a force on both sides of the court, going 2-of-2 from the field and pulling down seven rebounds.  Makor tied for the team-lead with three steals, two assists and one block. 
 
Steadily improving sophomore Laron Byrd (Philadelphia, PA) scored 21 points on 6-of-12 from the field and 6-for-6 from the line.  In addition, Byrd brought down four rebounds and dished out two assists. 
 
Coming off the bench, sophomore David Nicholson (Odenton, MD) went 2-of-3 from beyond the arc for 10 points, two rebounds and two steals. 
 
Junior forward Greg Lawson (Mount Holly, NJ) grabbed nine rebounds in only 18 minutes.  Lawson fell into foul trouble early, but still managed six points, one steal and one assist. 
 
Lebanon Valley (6-12, 4-7) was led by Fasano's 22 points and three rebounds.  Kevin Agnew went 16-of-18 from the line for 21 points and three steals.  With a double-double, Joey Giangiobbe, scored 15 points and brought down 10 rebounds. 
 
Widener returns to the court Saturday against Lycoming in Williamsport, PA.  The women begin at 1:00 pm and the men follow at 3:00 pm.
