Men's Swimming Tops Elizabethtown, 140-31; Women's Dealt Tough 106-97 Setback

Widener's men's team won 10 of the 11 events in a 140-31 Middle Atlantic Conference triumph over Elizabethtown and the women, who captured five events, were handed a 106-97 setback in Elizabethtown, PA.
 
Sophomore Andy Madore (State College, PA) recorded two of the Pride's eight individual wins, capturing the 400-yard IM in 4:46.91 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:26.41.
 
Freshman Ian Gaynor (Donegal, Ireland), who entered 38th in the country in the 100-yard freestyle, today took the 200-yard freestyle in 1:48.75.  Junior Vadim Belogorodsky (Huntington Valley, PA) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:49.78 and freshman Jeffrey Hicks (White Haven, PA) took the 50-yard freestyle in 23.62 seconds.
 
Freshman Jacob Lightman (Turnersville, NJ) got his first collegiate victory by taking the 200-yard butterfly in 2:15.94, senior Michael Lawley (Philadelphia, PA) won the 100-yard freestyle in 49.76 seconds and freshman Michael Grajek (Freehold, NJ) captured the 200-yard backstroke in 2:12.72.
 
The 400-yard freestyle relay team won in 3:29.96 and included Grajek, Lightman, Lawley and freshman Jeremy Lahn (Philadelphia, PA).  The 400-yard medley relay team was victorious in 3:50.00 and was comprised of Lawley, Lahn, Hicks and junior Andrew Olchowecky (Philadelphia, PA).


"It a great win for the guys team and sets us up very well for the MAC Championships," Widener coach Katy Peterson said.  "We gave guys a chance to make "B" cuts and they made the most of it."
 
Senior All-America Laura Harris (Phoenix, MD) entered 25th in the country in the 200-yard backstroke and won today in 2:13.78.  She also took the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.59.
 
Senior Jennifer Barkofski (Norristown, PA) also had two individual triumphs, winning the 400-yard IM in 5:02.62 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:40.60.
 
The 400-yard medley relay squad won in 4:18.91 and included Harris, Barkofski, sophomore Erin Neugebauer (Eden Prairie, MN) and senior Sara Leonelli (Vineland, NJ).
 
This was Widener's final meet before the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships, which will take place February 13-16 in York, PA.
