Women's Basketball Drops Conference Game to Alvernia, 91-71

Senior guard Jen Egee (Ridley, Park, PA) scored a career-high 34 points, but Widener fell to Alvernia 91-71 in Commonwealth Conference play on Wednesday in Reading, PA. 
 
Widener (9-5, 4-3 CC) fell into a 17-point hole in the first half with the outside shooting and free-throw ability of Alvernia
(5-9, 1-6) leading the home team to its first conference win of the season.
 
Widener led in rebounds 37-31, along with steals 10-8 and blocks 2-0. But Alvernia shot 58 percent (32-of-55) from the field, including 67 percent (18-of-27) in the second half, compared to the Pride's 41 percent (25-of-61). 
 
Widener went down 46-29 at halftime, but fought back to close to 61-56 with 9:34 remaining.  Alvernia then went on a tear to pull away, finishing 7-for-8 from the line in the waning minutes. 
 
Egee's point total is the third most in school history, five behind the top mark of 39 set by Chelsea Luhta against Moravian on January 18, 2006.  She also canned four 3-pointers, becoming the eighth player in Middle Atlantic Conference history to reach 200 as she stands at 202.

Egee also shot 11-of-18 from the field and 8-of-10 from the line to go with eight rebounds, three steals and one block over 39 minutes.

Senior Joanna Persiano (Ventnor, NJ) added 13 points and five rebounds.  Junior guard Kristina Reiter (Sewell, NJ) led the Pride with a career-high 10 rebounds to go with eight points, three assists and two steals. 
 
Leading the Crusaders was Kaitlyn Yoh with 31 points on 9-of-10 shooting with eight rebounds and six assists.  Chelsea Ebersole made eight 3-pointers for 26 points and Tyra Roberts had a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. 
 
Widener returns home Saturday against Hood at 1:00 pm.
