Pedrick's Last Minute Goal Secures 2-1 Victory for Women's Soccer Over FDU-Florham

(box score)

A last-minute goal by junior Jenna Pedrick (Sicklerville, NJ) lifted Widener to a 2-1 victory over FDU-Florham at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium and keeps the winning streak alive.

Widener (7-0-1), ranked eighth in the latest NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region Poll, took the lead 12 minutes into the game off a goal from senior Kelly Buckley (Villanova, PA). The Pride held position in the midfield, when Pedrick made a run and carried the ball down the middle of the field. Buckley took off down the right side and received a pass from Pedrick 20 yards from the goal. Buckley took a touch and fired the ball into the left side netting for her third goal of the year.

In the 78th minute, FDU-Florham (3-5) evened the score when Samantha Messina carried the ball down the right side and found Jennifer Digioia 12 yards out from the goal. Gigioia tapped the ball to her right and found the back of the net. That marks only the second time Widener has been scored on this season and the first in the last seven games.

The Pride entered the contest with a school-record six-game shutout streak.

With 90 seconds left in the game, Buckley crossed the ball to Pedrick right outside of the FDU box. Pedrick touched the ball around a defender and curved the ball into the upper-left corner just out of the reach of goalie Annie George for her third goal of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Valarie Perretti (Clayton, NJ), the two-time reigning Commonwealth Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, made six saves to help the Pride continue their longest winning streak since 2010 that now stands at seven. The 7-0-1 start is tied for the best over eight games in school history with the 2009 team.

Widener will next travel to Wesley on Wednesday. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
