Women's Soccer Tops Immaculata for its Third Straight Shutout

(box score)

Senior Karen Thomas (Mullica Hill, NJ) scored her fourth goal in three games as Widener shut out Immaculata 2-0 to remain undefeated.

Widener's defense led by senior Victoria Batter (Woodlyn, PA) and junior Stephanie Dickinson (Sicklerville, PA) posted its third straight shutout for the first time since 2010.

Widener (3-0-1) controlled possession in the first half and capitalized in the 24th minute when senior Kelly Buckley (Villanova, PA) received the ball inside the opponents box and made a backwards pass to Thomas, who hit the ball right under the crossbar to score her 15th career goal.

Less than a minute before the halftime whistle, freshman Brittany Allison (Coatesville, PA) netted her first collegiate goal and gave the Pride a two-score advantage. Allison dribbled the ball past a defender and fired a low-flying shot past Immaculata goaltender Meghan McCurnin.

Junior Jenna Pedrick (Sicklerville, PA) led the Pride with seven shots and Buckley added six.

As a team, Widener held the advantage in shots 22-4 and dominated in corner kicks 18-0 over the Mighty Macs (0-4).

Widener returns home against Rutgers-Camden on Thursday, beginning at 7:00 pm.
