Women's Lacrosse Dealt 18-11 Loss by Elizabethtown

(box score)

Widener played great in the opening half against the reigning Commonwealth Conference champions, but was undone by an early second-half spurt in an 18-11 loss to Elizabethtown at Edith R. Dixon Field.

Widener raced to an early 3-1 lead in the first nine minutes on tallies from sophomore Melissa Sailey (Swedesboro, NJ), Lauren Staedt (Drexel Hill, PA) and fellow senior Laura Kalbach (Lancaster, PA).  Elizabethtown then scored the next four goals, including two from Leigh Flounlacker, for a 5-3 lead with 13:10 left.

The Blue Jays owned a 10-8 halftime lead thanks to a modest 20-19 edge in shots.  Flounlacker netted four goals in the half and Sailey had three.

But Elizabethtown scored the first four goals of the second half over 15 minutes to open a 14-8 cushion and take control.  Becky Porter had two with Emily Butler and Gabby Genuario each adding one.

Sailey and sophomore Mackenzie Lindquist (Ocean City, NJ) each had three goals and an assist with Lindquist adding a career-best seven draw controls for the Pride (4-6, 0-3 CC).  Staedt netted two goals and sophomore Megan Dunn (Oxford, PA) made 15 saves to match her career high from April 24, 2012 at Cabrini.

Flounlacker scored six times, Porter netted four with Michele Grosso adding two assists for the Blue Jays (6-3, 2-0).

Widener is on the road Wednesday to visit Alvernia for a 7:00 pm start in Reading, PA.
