(box score)

Widener outhit the Eagles, but wound up losing 15-11 today at Eastern in St. Davids, PA.

Widener had hot bats right from the start, scoring five runs in the first inning off of starting pitcher Jordan Miller. Junior Center fielder Sam Christie (Upper Darby, PA) led the inning off with a walk and stole second base, which allowed him to score on a single hit by Matt Scherer (Havertown, PA). Scherer scored on a double to center hit by sophomore Marc Noyalis (Dallas, PA). A walk and a single loaded the bases for shortstop Josh Everett (Harveys Lake, PA), who drew a walk for the RBI. The Eagles sacrificed another run to get two outs on a 6-4-3 double play and senior Brendan O'Brien (Coatesville, PA) hit a single to score the fifth run of the inning.

In the flip-side of the inning Eastern took advantage of four walks and added a single and a double, both to left field, to bring in five runs to counter the Pride (17-19).

After a scoreless second inning, Widener added three runs in the third. Junior first baseman Michael Riverso (Philadelphia, PA) led the inning off with a triple to right center, followed by Everett and catcher Alex Barclay (Crofton, MD) drawing walks to load the bases. A groundout scored Riverso and a single to right field hit by Kyle Summers (Mohnton, PA) scored both Everett and Barclay. Eastern was able to get two runs back in the bottom of the inning with the help of three hits and two hit batsmen, but relief pitcher Craig Lager (Doylestown, PA) got a strike out for the third out of the inning and left the bases loaded to keep the Pride's one run lead.

The Eagles (17-16) had two three-run innings, in the fourth and seventh, along with one run in both the sixth and eighth innings. Widener scored one run in the sixth and two in the eighth, but could not bring any more runs across the plate in the ninth and lost 15-11 despite tallying 14 hits.

Noyalis went 2-for-5 at the plate with two doubles, two RBI and scored twice. He is on a 10-game hitting streak and has a hit in 26 of his last 27 contests.

Scherer and Summers also went 2-for-5, with Summers gaining two RBI. Scherer hit one double, scored twice and had one RBI. Riverso went 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple, three runs scored and a walk.

Senior Dennis Hocker (Coral Springs, FL) also had a triple, hitting 3-for-5, scoring once and bringing in two runs to give him 101 career RBI.

Miller (2-2) pitched five innings and gave up eight earned runs on eight hits while walking five batters for the win. Lager (0-2) is saddled with the loss after giving up three runs on two hits in 1 2/3 innings.
