Women's Lacrosse Rolls to 19-9 Victory Over Lycoming

Senior Julia Costello (Brookhaven, PA) completed her hat trick in the first half as part of her five-goal output to help Widener open a big lead and cruise to a 12-4 Commonwealth Conference win over Lycoming at Edith R. Dixon Field.

 
The Pride were in command after scoring five straight goals in 4 1/2 minutes to open a 7-1 lead with 12:08 remaining.  Costello and senior Laura Kalbach (Lancaster, PA) each scored twice in that run with junior Amy Albano (Columbia, MD) adding one.
 
The margin grew to 12-4 at halftime in which the home team enjoyed an 18-12 shots edge.  In addition to Costello, Kalbach also scored three times with Albano and sophomore Pinky Schneider (Moorestown, NJ) getting two each.
 
Costello notched her third game this season with at least five goals and, with her two assists, bumped her season totals to 27 goals and 40 points.  She moved into eighth place in school history with 118 goals, sixth with 58 points and ninth with 176 points.
 
Schneider scored four times, Kalbach had three goals and an assist, and Albano closed with two goals and three assists.  Sophomore Mackenzie Lindquist (Ocean City, NJ) had another great all around game with three goals, six ground balls, five draw controls and six caused turnovers.
 
Senior Lauren Staedt (Drexel Hill, PA) had a goal and five draw controls with sophomore Megan Dunn (Oxford, PA) making eight saves for the Pride (5-6, 1-3 CC).
 
Maureen Heagy finished with two goals and two assists, Brook Strausser scored twice with Lauren Reitnouer making five saves for the Warriors (3-9, 0-4).
 
Widener is home Wednesday against Albright, starting at 7:00 pm.
