Baseball Drops Two to Kenyon

(Game 1) / (Game 2)

Widener was handed a doubleheader sweep by Kenyon, dropping the first game 4-2 before it was handed an 8-3 loss in the nightcap in Fort Myers, FL.
 
Down 2-0 entering the fifth inning of game one, Widener (1-4) got one back in the fifth when junior Sam Christie (Upper Darby, PA) scored on a passed ball after he reached on an error and stole second.  The Pride tied things at 2-2 in the sixth when freshman Alec O'Dell (Edgewood, MD) tripled and crossed home on a groundout from senior Matt Hone (Newtown, PA).
 
But Kenyon (3-1) scored twice in the eighth to grab a 4-2 lead.  Nate Lotze singled through the left side to score Jake Dunn and Kyle Hardacker lifted a sacrifice fly.
 
Orefield, PA senior Nicholas Moeltner (0-1) again pitched great with no victory to show, striking out six and allowing four runs – three earned – and seven hits over 7 2/3 innings.  Freshman Joseph Santone (Blackwood, NJ) amassed three hits.
 
The Lords in game two opened the scoring with five runs in the last of the third.  Mike Danzinger delivered the key blow in the inning with a fielder's choice that plated two runs for a 4-0 cushion.
 
The Pride got three runs in the sixth to close to 5-3.  Junior Colin Weiss (Red Hill, PA) scored on a throwing error, Hone had a run-scoring groundout and sophomore Marc Noyalis (Dallas, PA) lined an RBI single.
 
But Kenyon got those runs back in the bottom of the frame for an 8-3 cushion.  Andrew Dunn and Jake Dunn each had RBI doubles and Hardacker added a run-scoring single.
 
Brookhaven junior Glenn Stanners (0-2) was charged with five runs – four earned – and five hits over four innings with three strikeouts for the Pride.
 
Jake Dunn closed with three hits for the Lords.
 
Widener is off until Wednesday, when it faces Heidelberg at 10:00 am in Fort Myers, FL.
