Women's Lacrosse Drops 16-6 Game at No. 16 Messiah

Widener traveled to Grantham, PA today to take No. 16 Messiah and came home with a 16-6 Commonwealth Conference loss.
 
Messiah (4-4, 1-0 CC) scored the first six goals of the game within the first 10 minutes between five different players. Sophomore Melissa Sailey (Swedesboro, NJ) broke the Falcon's streak with a goal at 18:24 after senior Julia Costello (Brookhaven, PA) fed her a pass. About a minute later, sophomore Pinky Schneider (Moorestown, NJ)  fed senior Laura Kalbach (Lancaster, PA) a pass that she put past goalkeeper Taylor Phillips for the Pride's second goal of the first half. In the last half of the period Messiah score five more goals, with Kiersten McGreer scoring her third with four seconds remaining.
 
At the start of the second half, Lizzy Keeney scored two goals one minute apart, with Gabrielle Hamelryck getting credited for both assists. Sophomore Mackenzie Lindquist (Ocean City, NJ)  worked hard offensively for the Pride (4-4, 0-1) in the second half, scoring three unassisted goals on four shots in the last 15 minutes of play, with the last coming with 35 seconds remaining.
 
Sophomore Megan Dunn (Oxford, PA) faced 35 shots and made 10 saves. Lindquist won two draw controls and picked up four ground balls, with Costello, Kalbach and sophomore Megan Granata (Broomall, PA) each winning two draw controls for the Pride.
 
Widener hits the road again next Wednesday to take on Lebanon Valley in Annville, PA, beginning at 7:00 pm.
