Women's Lacrosse Dealt 17-5 Loss by Swarthmore

Widener ran into a tough squad in Swarthmore and was handed a 17-5 loss at Edith R. Dixon Field.
 
The Garnet (4-0) scored seven consecutive goals to turn a 2-1 deficit into an 8-2 lead with 10:42 left in the first half.  Annalise Penikis tallied four times in that run, including a natural hat trick, and Corinne Sommi added two goals and an assist.
 
Sophomore Mackenzie Lindquist (Ocean City, NJ) tallied 1:40 into the second half to bring Widener with 9-4.  But Swarthmore ran off the next seven goals to open a 16-4 cushion with 10:05 to play.  Sommi added another two goals in the spurt and Penikis notched three assists.
 
Senior Lauren Staedt (Drexel Hill, PA), freshman Meghan Garvey (Landenberg, PA), junior Amy Albano (Columbia, MD) and freshman Caitlyn Mullner (Aston, PA) all scored with Lindquist adding six ground balls and four caused turnovers for Widener (2-2).  Sophomore Megan Dunn (Oxford, PA) totaled seven saves.

Junior Danielle LaVallee (Prospect Park, PA) and sophomore Pinky Schneider (Moorestown, NJ) each had an assist for the Pride.
 
Penikis had five goals and three assists, Sommi scored four times with Sara Lentricchia and Lizzie Kolin getting two goals each for the Garnet.  Michelle Ammerman made two saves over the first 30 minutes and Connie Bowen had three over the next 20.
 
Widener hits the road next Wednesday to visit Muhlenberg for a 4:00 pm start.
