Women's Lacrosse Handed 14-5 Setback at Ursinus

(box score)

Widener climbed its way back into the contest in the second half, but in the end was dealt a 14-5 loss at Ursinus in Collegeville, PA.

Widener was in a 7-2 hole before scoring three of the next four goals bridging the halves to close to 8-5 in the first minute of the second stanza.  Freshman Caitlyn Mullner (Aston, PA) and senior Julia Costello (Brookhaven, PA) each tallied in the first half and sophomore Pinky Schneider (Moorestown, NJ) ended the spurt.

But Ursinus re-established the momentum by scoring the next six goals for the final.  Eden Adams scored twice in that run to help the Bears gain a 12-7 shots edge in the half.

One game after reaching 100 career goals and cracking the school's top 10 list in points, Costello scored twice on both of her shots.  Senior Lauren Staedt (Drexel Hill, PA) also scored with Schneider and sophomore Melissa Sailey (Swedesboro, NJ) each getting assists.

Megan Dunn (Oxford, PA) closed with seven saves and fellow sophomore Mackenzie Lindquist (Ocean City, NJ) amassed five draw controls for the Pride (2-1).

Devin Brakel had three goals and an assist with Nicole Kovacs also getting a hat trick for the Bears (1-2).

Widener is home Saturday against Swarthmore, beginning at 1:00 pm.
