Men's Soccer Equals Arcadia, 1-1

Boxscore (box score)

Widener played a suburb first half en route to a 1-1 Commonwealth Conference tie with Arcadia at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Widener (5-6-4, 0-2-3 CC) controlled possession and had 11 shots in the first half. The hard work paid off in the 29th minute when freshman Max Reid (Munich, Germany) scored his sixth goal of the season. Reid held the ball at midfield and made a long pass to sophomore Zac Furia (Morton, PA) down the left side of the field. Furia made a move around a defender and crossed the ball from the right side to find Reid in front of the net to finish off the play. Furia now leads the Pride with four assists and Reid is tied for the team lead with six goals.

Reid led the team with seven of Widener's 17 shots. Sophomore midfielder Tori Remondelli (Point Pleasant, NJ) followed with five shots as well as being the dominant force for the Pride in the center of the field.

Another key factor in the midfield, sophomore Grant Shaffer (Glen Rock, PA) touched the ball on almost every possession along with driving a header late in the second half that flew only inches above the crossbar.

In the 59th minute, the Knights evened the score at 1-1 when a free kick taken by Alex Wells was directed into the net by Joseph Bertucci on a diving header.

Senior goaltender Jakub Valdner (Bratislava, Slovakia) made two saves in the second overtime period and six overall for the Pride.

Widener will next travel to Albright on Tuesday to continue conference play at 7:00 pm.
