Men's and Women's Swimming Each Fall at Misericordia

Widener's men's and women's swimming teams each had a strong showing in their first dual meets of the season, but fell at Misericordia by scores of 117-88 on the women's side and 116-89 on the men's side in Dallas, PA.

For the women, senior Colleen Tighe (Linwood, NJ) continued her exploits in the distance races by taking the 500-yard freestyle in 5:38.48 and the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:26.00. Senior Sara Leonelli (Vineland, NJ) was victorious in the 100-yard freestyle in 58.46 seconds and the 200-yard freestyle in 2:05.81.

Senior All-America Laura Harris (Phoenix, MD) won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.41. This is the same event she placed eighth in at last year's NCAA Championships to gain All-America honors.

For the men, freshman Ian Gaynor (Donegal, Ireland) took the 50-yard freestyle in 21.53 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 48.18 seconds. Senior Michael Lawley (Philadelphia, PA) grabbed the 100-yard backstroke in 56.14 seconds.

The men's 200-yard freestyle relay won in 1:29.11 and included Gaynor, Lawley, Jeremy Lahn (Philadelphia, PA) and fellow freshman Jeffrey Hicks (White Haven, PA).

Both teams are back on the road next Saturday at Scranton, starting at 1:00 pm.
