Men's Basketball Dealt 85-68 Setback at Hood

Widener could not stop a second-half onslaught by Hood and left with an 85-68 Commonwealth Conference loss in Frederick, MD.
 
Hood outscored Widener 52-37 after intermission by shooting an eye-opening 74 percent (14-of-19) from the floor and 5-of-5 from 3-point range, overcoming just a 59-percent clip (19-for-32) from the line.  Cameron Cook scored 14 points in the period on 5-of-7 shooting and Justin Bowers netted 12, going 10-for-16 from the line.
 
Junior Bob Makor (Philadelphia, PA) tied a career high with 18 points, shooting 7-of-8 from the floor to go with five rebounds for the Pride (4-11, 3-5 CC).  He also scored 18 points December 12 at Arcadia.
 
Junior Rodney Brown (Lake Valley, NJ) and sophomore Dillon Fields (Medford, NJ) netted 12 points apiece for Widener, which shot 43 percent (23-of-53) from the field and 15-for-17 from the line. 
 
Bowens scored 18 points for the Blazers (9-5, 3-4), who saw all of their starters and one reserve hit double figures.  Cook and Trey Quinn netted 14 points apiece as Hood shot 54 percent (28-of-52) from the field and 8-of-16 from 3-point range.
 
The Pride shot 53 percent (10-of-19) from the floor in the first half, but that only got them a 33-31 deficit.  Fields and sophomore Greg Lawson (Mount Holly, NJ) scored seven points apiece in the stanza.
 
Widener is on the road Wednesday at Messiah, starting at 8:00 pm.
