Field Hockey Falls 4-0 To Swarthmore

(boxscore)
Widener battled through the heat, but was not able to secure a victory as it lost 4-0 to Swarthmore at Edith R. Dixon Field as part of the annual “320 Challenge.”

Sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Karmeris (Wilmington, DE) played the full 70 minutes and made six saves, but it was not enough to keep the Garnet (4-0) from taking home a victory. At the end of the first half the score rested at 1-0 as a result of an unassisted goal from Nia Jones.

Widener (1-2) was looking to score its first goal in the second half, but was beat to the punch by Swarthmore's Katie Teleky who scored a goal just 45 seconds into it with Sophia Agathis gaining the assist. Teleky and Jones teamed up for the third goal, and Jones met Erin Gluck with a pass for the fourth.

Pride senior defender Nicole Nardone (Garwood, NJ) played solid defense throughout the whole game and had two shots. Hannah Robinson (Clarksville, MD), Meghan Garvey (Landenberg, PA), and Samantha Balonis (Northumberland, PA) also each took two shots. Widener ended the day with 11 shots and four corners.

The Pride hits the road for the next four games, beginning with Tuesday at Eastern starting at 4:00 pm.
