Women's Soccer Notches Thrilling 1-0 Overtime Victory at Swarthmore

Kelly Buckley (Villanova, PA) scored 5:18 into overtime and fellow junior Valarie Perretti (Clayton, NJ) was simply spectacular in goal for Widener in a 1-0 triumph at Swarthmore.

The Garnet had several great scoring chances in the opening half, but it was Perretti who had all of the answers. She came up with nine saves over the first 45 minutes that included several standout plays on point-blank shots.

Widener provided an ending in the 96th minute in dramatic fashion. Junior Karen Thomas (Mullica Hill, NJ) got the ball in the middle of the field and fed Buckley, who dribbled and then blasted a shot from 25 yards inside the upper right corner which goalkeeper Kaitlyn Sipiora had no chance of stopping.

Perretti made 11 saves and junior Olivia Yoh (Wernersville, PA) took two shots for the Pride (1-0).

Emma Sindelar fired six shots and Reba Magier made one save for Swarthmore (1-2).

Widener on Friday plays at Rutgers-Newark in the Scarlet Raider Soccer Classic, beginning at 5:00 pm.
